What Is an Inground Sprinkler System?

Don’t Want a Landscape Sprinkler System That You Keep Tripping Over?

If you are looking for a landscape sprinkler system that is hidden away when not in use, then an inground system is the way to go. Read on for more details.

This type of watering system comes with sprinkler heads that have been recessed below ground. When the system is in use, the recessed heads will pop up and distribute a steady stream of water within a specific area of a landscape. When installed properly, these sprinkler systems will last for many years, with little more than routine maintenance required.

A standard inground sprinkler system is comprised of a series of pipes, valves, couplings, and of course, the sprinkler heads themselves. There are enhancements available in the form of pressure gauges, timers, and equipment that will control the water pressure. It is possible to include head extensions, thus allowing the sprinkler heads to rise higher, making them ideal to use in flowerbeds and around taller trees and shrubbery.

To install such a system, you first need to plan the layout of it in advance. This involves assessing how much water pressure is available to force water through the pipes and out the sprinkler heads. Knowing this information will make it easier to determine the placement of the heads, to provide an even water distribution over the lawn or landscaped area.

Once you have determined the basic layout, you will then have to start digging the trenches that contain the pipes. The trenches do not have to be deep, but the depth has to be sufficient to allow the heads to sit below ground level once in place. Should this not be done, then when you mow your lawn, you will end up damaging the sprinkler heads, and your lawnmower.
